In Serie B, if the team in third finishes ten points or more ahead of the team in fourth, there are no playoffs (as the third-place team.are judged to be good enough for promotion) for the teams ranked 3-6.
That could, legitimately, lead to a situation where the team in fifth could play the team in fourth on the last day of the season knowing that losing the game was to their benefit – if the team in fourth caught up from 10 to 9 points behind those in third, there would be playoffs, and the team in fifth would have a chance of promotion again.
How could THAT be policed?
