I’ve been reading some poetical analysis of late, which has been great – given me some really nice ideas for things going forward, even if it has taken a fair bit of time away from now.

This is, self evidently, about Gary Ballance’s marathon second innings 203*, and its loosely based on a blason, so make of that what you will.

(Hampshire v Yorkshire – Day 4)

From beneath a fixed plastic peak

watchful eyes coruscate only for survival.

With the heart’s accounting of triumphs now forgotten

He bats.

Astride the final day as a true new leader

with feet still nimble and primed.

At last! A low flourish,

and then he shakes hands, his work done,

his battle won.
