I always try and set aside a little time when Torino are playing, more’s the pity this season, and I saw a decent amount of their meeting with Verona on Sunday 23rd.

So, what happened? To be brutally honest, precious little. Toro looked lame, with Quagliarella and Amauri showing absolutely nothing up front. There was a hint of what they were trying to do – attacks beginning down the flanks, but with neither striker posing enough of a threat, the Veronese were able to snuff them out fairly easily.

Meanwhile, Hellas’ tactic of working the ball forward to Luca Toni was neither surprising nor dealt with, and as one who favours Torino, it was worrying to see such a simple tactic be so comprehensively successful against a defence that was obviously going to have to up its game in light of Cerci and Immobile leaving.

Artur Ionita, it happens, is the first Moldovan to score in Serie A, so he might pop up as a quiz question in future (certainly, he’d be a Pointless answer).

Ultimately, if that was to be Torino for the rest of the season, its going to be a long and somewhat depressing campaign and Amauri and Quagliarella would be lucky to get ten goals between them.

Entertainment Value? 2.5/10.
