Here’s two graphs showing the make-up (by club) of the London XI that played in the first Inter-City Fairs Cup competition in the years 1955-58; the team was brought in from a range of London clubs and faced – in principle teams made up from other city’s best players en route to the final. As it happens, they lost that final against a team that was under the name of Barcelona XI, and was wearing blue and white, but was actually just Barcelona as Espanyol refused to contribute any players.

So here’s the graphs. Charlton were good back then, weren’t they? Eddie Firmani scored a hat-trick in one game, no less. Excellent.
